Sony might be preparing a newer and smaller PS4 design

A set of images that reportedly portray the PlayStation 4 Slim version have appeared online, and while they do look quite impressive, they can easily be fake or just some early concept shots currently being designed by Sony.

The PS4 launched back in November of 2013 and impressed tens of millions of fans from all over the world with its hardware power, its capabilities, as well as through its design which is mighty attractive, especially when compared to the rectangular Xbox One, its main rival.

A PS4 Slim might appear

Now, over a year since launch, it seems that Sony is already preparing a PS4 Slim model, with a new overall design that occupies less space and is more efficient. Such a procedure isn't something new for the Japanese company, as the PS3, for example, went through not one but three different designs during its lifetime.

As you can see in the images above and below, via Multiplayer Italy, the pics depict a drastically smaller console, with a side disc slot and a few other interesting elements, such as new Power and Eject buttons. The version is codenamed Monolith and certainly looks like one.

It could just be fake

Bear in mind that these could just be elaborate fakes made by a fan. They could also portray a design that's still being processed internally by Sony, as it's still quite early for the Slim version of the PS4 to debut.

To put things into perspective, the original PS3 launched in 2006 and its first Slim iteration made its debut in 2009. The following version, the so-called Super Slim, launched in 2012.

As such, take these photos with a grain of salt, as it's still very early for a new version of the console to appear. What's more, its small form factor also brings into question heat management, as the console does get quite hot when playing games.
