Sony confirms that tomorrow, March 26, it's going to release new firmware updates for both the PS4, in the form of the long-awaited 2.50 Yukimura version, and for the PS Vita, which will get taken to version 3.50.

Firmware updates are playing big roles when it comes to consoles and devices that rely on official software from their manufacturers. Both Sony and Microsoft have greatly enhanced the features supplied by their consoles through constant updates.

Sony will debut a major software release for the PS4 tomorrow

After confirming early this month that the PS4 will get a fresh firmware update that takes it to version 2.50, codenamed Yukimura, the studio now mentions that it will debut the new software tomorrow, March 26, worldwide, according to the PS blog.

What's more, besides already-confirmed features, Sony also mentions that some rumored ones, like the back-up to local storage, will also be a part of the new firmware. This allows PS4 owners to back up the contents of their hard drive to an external USB drive, similar to what's possible on the PS Vita right now.

Besides this great feature, the new update also allows PS4 owners to suspend and resume games, eliminating the need to wait for lengthy loading times when jumping between titles.

Better social mechanics that deal with friends and trophies are also included, while more numerous accessibility options are also going to be added to the main menu, for gamers who require special elements to play on the PS4.

Through firmware update 2.50, PS4 owners will also be able to stream 60fps titles via Remote Play and access them via Share Play. Users will also be able to automatically install all future updates thanks to a new setting, and even upgrade their sub-accounts to master status. In order to avoid scams, verified accounts of developers and publishers will appear with a badge.

A new PS Vita 3.50 firmware is also coming

Besides this new software on the PS4, Sony also confirms that a new PS Vita firmware release will take place tomorrow, March 26, which brings more accessibility options, and other, smaller improvements.
