The NPD Group has just revealed its March sales report based on gaming purchases made in the United States of America, confirming that the PS4 is once again the top dog, ahead of the Xbox One, and that Battlefield Hardline managed to overtake Bloodborne as the best-selling game of the month.

The gaming industry was deemed recession-proof a few years ago by bullish analysts, but unfortunately for the companies active in the industry, sales figures haven't exactly gone all that well, both for consoles and for games.

Even so, the arrival of the PS4 and Xbox One has breathed fresh life into the scene, as the two consoles have duked it out every month.

For March, the NPD group has just presented its sales report and it confirms that the PS4 and Battlefield Hardline are the big winners.

Sony's PS4 trumps the Xbox One and Nintendo's devices

First up, in terms of hardware sales, the PS4 is the top dog this month, as Sony's console is enjoying some impressive figures, partly because of Bloodborne, its highly anticipated exclusive role-playing game, which also propelled it as the number one platform in terms of software sales.

Meanwhile, Microsoft just mentions that the Xbox One is enjoying strong growth and outperforms the Xbox 360 at this point in its life cycle.

Meanwhile, Nintendo is enjoying better sales, particularly for the 3DS, but it declines to say just how much profit it's recorded.

Hardline trumps Bloodborne in terms of games

As far as software sales are concerned, Battlefield Hardline reigns supreme, as the fact that it appeared on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One made it overtake Bloodborne, the second spot, which launched just on the PS4.

Other best-selling games include Grand Theft Auto 5, Mario Party 10, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, MLB 15: The Show, Minecraft, NBA 2K15, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, and Final Fantasy: Type-0 HD.

General data, via VG247, shows that less money was spent, as opposed to February, but more accessories, meaning subscription cards, controllers, toys-to-life figures, and other such things, were bought by customers.
