The pizza bed is the brainchild of Brooklyn artist Claire Manganiello, looks delicious enough to want to eat

Let’s face it, pizza and big, comfy beds are two of the absolute best things in the world. Besides, chances are that there are plenty of people who love and adore eating pizza in bed, possibly while watching the latest hit TV series.

Brooklyn artist Claire Manganiello decided to go the extra mile and combine eating and chillin’ in what might be the coolest piece of furniture ever: the pizza bed. Mind you, her pizza bed isn’t really a bed made from, well, pizza slices.

In fact, it isn’t even a bed per se. What this artist created is bed sheets, a cover and pillowcases that can turn otherwise perfectly normal beds into super cool ones that look like pizza. That’s right, even your bed can become a pizza bed with a little help from Claire Manganiello.

How she got the idea

The Brooklyn artist says that she got the idea to create the pizza bed some time ago, on a Sunday morning. On that day, Claire Manganiello was simply walking around feeling rather cold and gulping down some pizza.

The artist says that, at one point, she started feeling so cold that she wished she could crawl inside a pizza slice to keep warm. Later that day, the Brooklyn artist came up with the idea to design and create the pizza bed.

“It's 3am on a Sunday morning, I'm shivering on a Brooklyn street corner in the dead of winter, clutching a slice of pizza and wishing aloud that I could actually crawl inside of it, where it's safe and warm.”

“Suddenly, somewhere deep inside my frozen and beer-fueled brain, Pizza Bed was born,” Claire Manganiello explains the birth of this one-of-a-kind project.

The ins and outs of the pizza bed

The artist explains that her pizza sheets, cover and pillowcases come in three sizes: twin, full-queen and king. They measure 66 x 96 inches, 92 x 102 inches and 102 x 108 inches (168 x 244 centimeters, 233 x 260 centimeters and 260 x 274 centimeters), respectively.

The pizza beds set to retail for $150, $175 and $200, respectively. As you’ve probably figured out from the gallery below, the sheets stand for the sauce, the pillow cases for the crust, and the cover for the topping.

Not a dream come true just yet

The bad news is that, for the time being at least, the pizza bed is not available to the general public. Thus, although the design phase was completed a while ago, Claire Manganiello hasn’t yet started actually making it.

The Brooklyn artist says that, to make the dream that is the pizza bed come true, she needs nearly $126,000 (about €101,300). Hoping to obtain the money, she started a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter and has so far raised nearly $11,000 (€8,500).

Should things go as planned, the pizza bed will launch sometime in the first few months of 2015.
