Roberto J. Dohnert announced the immediate availability of the Linux Kernel 4.0 Update Kit for his Black Lab Linux computer operating system, allowing users to update to the newly released Linux 4.0 kernel.

The Linux Kernel 4.0 Update Kit provided by Roberto J. Dohnert is in fact a Bash script that will automatically download and install the official Linux 4.0 kernel packages from Canonical's repositories, as presented by Softpedia in the "How to Install Linux Kernel 4.0 on Ubuntu 15.04" tutorial.

Therefore, the Linux Kernel 4.0 Update Kit is compatible with BlacBlack Lab Linux 5.x and 6.x series, Ubuntu 14.x and 15.x series, as well as Linux Mint 17.x. Both 64 and 32-bit architectures are supported.

"Today we are announcing the immediate availability of the 4.0 kernel update kit for Black Lab Linux," says Roberto J. Dohnert, Black Lab Linux founder and lead developer. "The 4.0 Kernel brings some important updates and features."

Before updating, please read the known issues. To update, download the Linux Kernel 4.0 Update Kit, save the file on your Home directory, extract it, open the Terminal app, and run the following commands:

code
cd ~/
chmod +x kernel-enablement-kit-4.0
sudo ./kernel-enablement-kit-4.0
Linux kernel 4.0 was announced by Linus Torvalds on April 12, 2015. Highlights include a new kernel patching infrastructure that does not require system reboots, DisplayPort Audio, Intel Quark SoC support, and PlayStation 4 Controller support.

Additionally, Linux kernel 4.0 also provides better fan control support for Radeon graphics cards, implemented in the Radeon DRM driver, improved Logitech HID support, better Toshiba laptop support, and Intel Skylake support.

Update: We've tested the Linux Kernel 4.0 Update Kit on an encrypted Ubuntu 15.04 installation and the system does not work anymore. Therefore, we do not recommend updating to Linux kernel 4.0 if you have an encrypted installation.

Update 2: There was an issue with the .zip package, therefore Roberto J. Dohnert repackaged the script as a tar.gz archive. Because of this, we've changed the name of the script in the commands mentioned above.
