A new batch of screenshots showing the mobile version of Microsoft Excel have reached the web, confirming once again that we’re very close to getting a new preview build of Windows 10 for phones.

Microsoft initially promised to roll out Office for Windows 10 for phones in late April, aiming at a BUILD 2015 unveiling, but the company pushed the release back for a couple of weeks due to a number of issues that needed to be resolved on mobile devices.

Now it appears that work on Office for Windows 10 for phones is almost completed and the very next build released for insiders is very likely to include the productivity suite as well.

Features borrowed from PCs

With Windows 10, Microsoft is set to bring together PCs, phones, and tablets, so the Office productivity suite plays the very same role, which means that the interface of the built-in apps should be similar across all devices.

The same is valid for Microsoft Excel and these screenshots confirm that the spreadsheet app will come with an interface the resembles the one for PCs.

The feature lineup will also be similar and you can work with tables, pictures, shapes, formulas, and even with multiple sheets at the same time, although that could be quite a challenge, given the limited working space on a small phone display.

Basically, with Window 10 for phones and the Office suite, you should remain productive wherever you go and this is one of the reasons Microsoft tried to make all apps very similar across devices. The concept of universal Windows apps is taking shape in Windows, and most Microsoft apps coming out in the next few months are expected to work across all devices.

Windows 10 for phones is projected to launch in the fall of 2015, but a new preview build should see daylight in the coming days, with a brand new Office version included by default.
