Indian smartphone makers aren't known to offer major software update for their mid- or high-end handsets. However, as of lately, some of them have tried to appease customers and make them more loyal by releasing updates for their popular smartphones.

Micromax is one of the few handset makers in India that promises Android updates for its smartphones. Sometimes it delivers on these promises, but sometimes they don't.

Today, Lava Mobiles surprised Indian customers with an announcement regarding an Android 5.0 Lollipop update for two of its smartphones.

Those who decided to go for Lava's iris X1 Grand or Iris Fuel 50 in the past will be pleased to know that these smartphones are now eligible for Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Both smartphones were initially launched with Android 4.4 KitKat onboard

Aside from the upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop, the update brings several improvements and tweaks for both smartphones. For example, the update adds two new battery features that were missing from the previous version of Android.

One of these new features shows users how much time it will take for the battery to charge, while the other one shows a graphic that lets users know how much time is remaining till the battery runs out. A battery saver will be added too.

With Interruptions, users will be able to control what falls into the Priority category and what goes to silent mode during sleeping hours. The new features is accessible from Settings / Sound & notification / Interruptions.

Android 5.0 Lollipop also brings in-built flash light, which is now included in the notification panel. Keep in mind that you don't need to install a third-party application, you can instead use the flashlight by swiping down the notification panel.

Lava Mobiles is now pushing the Lollipop update OTA (over the air), so it might take some time to reach all devices, but you might want to check for it by going to Settings / About Phone / System Updates.
