14 DAY TRIAL // Endless runner is a game genre that brought a lot of success to companies like Imangi Studios, which launched the amazingly popular Temple Run on both Android and iOS platforms.
Since 2011, when Temple Run made it to iOS, there have been quite a lot of endless runner games launched on mobile devices. In fact, there have been so many that the genre has kind of become redundant.
But the folks over at Crystal Dynamics think that they can revive this genre with yet another game in the Lara Croft series. For those who don't know, Crystal Dynamics are the creators of the latest Tomb Raider reboot that has sold about 8 million units since its release in 2013.
The new mobile game announced by Crystal Dynamics is called Lara Croft: Relic Run and will soon be available on Android and iOS. In fact, developers have confirmed that the game has been soft launched in the Netherlands on both platforms mentioned earlier.
It will be launched worldwide in the coming months
The new game is the result of the partnership between Crystal Dynamics, Square Enix and Simutronics, with the latter being the actual developer of Lara Croft: Relic Run.
“Many of you have correctly mused that Relic Run is an adventure runner, and at its core it is, but we feel that it’s much more than that. Relic Run offers a massive amount of diversity in play, allowing for seamless transitions between acrobatic-inspired running, combat, vehicles, and epic boss fights, including but not limited to the return of the infamous T-Rex,” said Crystal Dynamics in a Tumblr post.
Crystal Dynamics has also confirmed that Lara Croft: Relic Run will be available on Android, iOS and Windows Phone 8 for free. The game will be launched soon on the first two platforms, but it's unclear when exactly the developers will bring it to Windows Phone.
Lara Croft: Relic Run is expected to go live in App Store and Google Play Store in the coming months, but since developers are aiming for a staged release, it will take some time until it becomes available in all countries.
