LG is subtly attacking Samsung’s new flagship

In the mobile world, making fun of the competition and doing it smoothly goes a long way. Microsoft, Apple, Samsung and other major players in the tech industry have all done it to the delight of millions of tech enthusiasts around the world.

This week, LG felt wanton enough to take a few pokes at this spring’s big attraction, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. If you have been following the news, you probably know that the folks responsible for the whole #bendgate scandal centering on the iPhone 6 Plus back in 2014 have returned and tested the Galaxy S6 Edge too.

The results were not so encouraging. The tests have shown that the Galaxy S6 Edge tends to bend under the same amount of pressure (110 lbs / 49kg) as the iPhone 6 Plus.

We were also shown that it took up to 149 lbs / 67 kg to completely break Samsung’s new gizmo, while the Apple iPhone 6 Plus proved to be a little sturdier and managed to take up 179 lbs / 81kg.

Samsung didn't take these results very well. The Korean tech giant felt compelled to issue a formal reply where it drew attention to the fact that, in real life conditions, it would be impossible for the Galaxy S6 Edge to be subjected to such amounts of pressure.

More than that, Sammy goes on to mention that the phone has different kinds of durability on the front and the back, an aspect the initial tester (Square Trade) didn't take into consideration.

So the Korean tech giant is requesting another round of testing, which should take into account the guidelines described above.

While all this is going on, the competition is sitting on the side and laughing inwardly. And sometime outwardly too.

For example, LG Jordan took the opportunity to promote their G Flex 2 smartphone some more, while also making fun of the Galaxy S6 Edge in the process. In a post on their Twitter account, they say that “Some curves just make sense” and that the F Flex 2 “takes the edge off.”

The LG G Flex 2 is a pretty nifty device in itself. The phone was the first to be launched with a Snapdragon 810 under the hood, back at CES 2015.

It ships out with a 5.5-inch P-OLED curved display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution (403 ppi) and 16/32GB of internal storage, plus 2/3GB of RAM.
