The update is pushed OTA (over the air) in small batches

LG G3 from Verizon is still stuck on Android 4.4 KitKat, but not for long. It appears that the Big Red may have already started the roll-out of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for LG's flagship smartphone.

Unfortunately, the information hasn't been confirmed by Verizon yet, but a few LG G3 owners report they have been able to download and upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

However, since Verizon did not make any announcement and there are only a few LG G3 users that claim they now have Lollipop on their smartphones, it's likely that this is just a soft launch of the update.

The update is pushed OTA (over the air) in small batches, and considering previous experiences, it may take a few weeks until all LG G3 owners receive the upgrade at Verizon.

At least two LG G3 owners have received the update

Droid-Life reports that at least two LG G3 devices now have Android 5.0.1 Lollipop installed and their owners can consider themselves lucky, as they are among the few who got it.

One LG G3 owner complains on Verizon's forum that his smartphone with Android 5.0.1 Lollipop onboard is experiencing an SMS bug. The reply from Verizon's support team states that Lollipop is not yet available for LG G3, so the SMS bug shouldn't happen at all.

Obviously, this isn't true as the owner the G3 came back with more details and posted the software version, which match those of the Android 5.0 Lollipop that should roll out at Verizon.

The second lucky LG G3 owner got a replacement smartphone from Verizon, and when he fired it up, he noticed that there's a new software available for download.

The latter confirmed on G+ that the update is indeed Android 5.0.1 Lollipop and that he was able to download and install it on his smartphone.

While it's still unclear whether Verizon has started the rollout of Android 5.0.1 Lollipop or not, it's certain that at least some LG G3 users have gotten the update.
