Even your sleep cycle won't escape the Internet of Things

How smart would you like your bed to be? If your answer is anything along the lines of “very” or “as smart as possible,” then the Luna mattress cover might be just the thing for you.

Luna is shaping up to be one of the most successful campaigns launched through the Indiegogo crowdfunding website.

A project that has only been up for around three or four days (at the time of this article's writing), the mattress cover has already exceeded the funding goal by over a factor of four.

It only needed $100,000 / €88,613 but has made over $420,000 / €372,000 despite how short a time it has been open for pledges.

We suppose that having a coffee already waiting for you upon waking up is just too sweet to pass up, even if the price of the Luna is of $199 / €176 and up.

Colored pure white, though we imagine that other options will be made available eventually, the Luna is packed with various sensors.

These sensors can monitor your sleep patterns by keeping track of when you wake up, how your heart rate progresses, as well as your breathing pattern.

These readings are used to determine whether the mattress cover should adjust its temperature, for one thing, but it can do a lot more than that.

We have already mentioned its ability to use a home network to order a coffee machine to start preparing a cup or two of the drink (though you'll have to keep it stocked with coffee and water yourself).

Another thing it can do is connect to a smartphone and set up an alarm, find details about health-related activities, etc.

This doesn't mean that it will set an alarm in the normal sense (you still get to decide that). What it does is check when the alarm is set and wake you up in the moment of lightest sleep during the 30 minute-window before the wake up time. This effectively eliminated morning grogginess.

And if you just fall on your bed from exhaustion some day or night, the Luna can link with your smart devices to lock the doors and turn off any forgotten lights, if the function for such things exists. See the video below for all the features and their explanation.

Availability

Luna will ship in August 2015 if you make a pledge now. $199 / €176 is the minimum, $50 / €44 less than the retail price.
