Some users get Denim updates on their phones

The Lumia Denim release is imminent these days, and it appears that Microsoft is now making the final adjustments for the launch, as a number of Lumia 930 users have confirmed the arrival of a bunch of new features on their devices.

A report coming from Chinese publication IThome indicates that a number of Lumia 930 handsets enrolled in the Preview for Developers program have received some of the features that were supposed to be included in Denim, but all these devices are still running Lumia Cyan.

What's more, it turns out that all these features that have lately arrived on Lumia 930 do not work, so this could actually be a sign that more updates are in the pipeline for Microsoft's 5-inch flagship.

“Hey Cortana” already there

While it's certainly unusual to see Microsoft rolling out incomplete updates to Lumia phones, no matter if they're part of the developer program or not, some sources claim that this is indeed the beginning of the Lumia Denim rollout, which should become available to everyone in the coming days.

At this point, the Lumia 930 devices that are seeing these unfinished Denim features are still running Windows Phone 8.1 Update build 14203 with Cyan.

But the settings screen does show the new “Hey Cortana” feature that allows you to activate the personal assistant without touching the phone, as well as new photo improvements for the camera.

Only available for Preview for Developer devices

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that Lumia Denim would be shipped to its phones in the fourth quarter of 2014, and with just a single month left on the calendar, it's pretty clear that the company needs to bring out the update as soon as possible if it wants to stick to its original schedule.

Sources have said that Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520 are the only two devices getting Denim this year, while the rest of the Lumia lineup should get it in the first months of 2015.

The rollout is expected to take at least two months and Microsoft has recently confirmed through its Lumia Twitter account that Denim development has already been completed and is awaiting approval from carriers around the world.

As you can see in the screenshots below, the Lumia 930 devices getting these early Denim features are from Germany, so it appears that some European countries are among the first to get this update.

Obviously, there are a lot of uncertain details right now, but there's no doubt that Denim is likely to become available to everyone anytime these days.
