Microsoft is now testing a specific feature for it

Since Microsoft has recently confirmed it will add more smartphones to the list of compatible devices with Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview, everyone is wondering which Lumia models the company may put on this list.

Unfortunately, we will know for sure only when Microsoft actually launches the next Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview build, which isn't too far.

The good news is we have some info that allows us to speculate on which Lumia smartphones will be included on the list of supported devices.

Keep in mind that none of this information is official, so take it with a grain of salt until Microsoft releases the next version of Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview.

If you did not know by now, the next build of the OS, which is version 12521, will contain some new features that will only be available for certain Lumia models.

That's because only a handful of Lumia smartphones contain the hardware needed to benefit from these features. One of these new features to be introduced in the next version of Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview is LED notifications.

That will allow users to set light notifications for various apps and services, but that smartphone is required to have a hardware LED included.

The new LED notification feature is meant to be tested on certain Lumia phones

Now it's a bit unclear which Lumia smartphones feature inactive LEDs, but WindowsMania claims Lumia 930 has it.

It's a bit unclear as to how Microsoft plans to add this new feature to some of the current Lumia smartphones, but one possibility would be to make use of the Windows logo for those devices that don't have on-screen buttons.

Another option would be to make use of a currently inactive LED that is usually placed above the screen. However, since it's inactive, it's hard to tell that a smartphone actually has a LED if it's not marked in some way.

Time will tell whether the new LED notification feature is only meant for upcoming Lumia smartphones that Microsoft plans to launch later this year, or there might be some models supporting it.
