United States is not among the most prolific markets for Microsoft when it comes to Windows Phone. Even though the company is trying to team up with all major carriers in the country to offer great deals on Windows Phone handsets, not many customers seem to be attracted by the large number of affordable smartphones Microsoft has released in the last couple of months.

However, there are some changes in the market as two of the best-selling Windows Phone handsets have dropped their top positions in favor of one of the newest entry-level smartphones launched by Microsoft.

Lumia 520 and Lumia 521 have been among the most popular Windows Phone devices in the United States. The AdDuplex statistics for March 2015 indicates that both smartphones have been overtaken by Lumia 635 sales.

With a market share of 23.4%, Lumia 635 is now dominating the Windows Phone segment in the United States. The device is followed by Nokia Lumia 521 with 14.8% and Nokia Lumia 520 with 9.5% market share.

In the same piece of news, AT&T seems to be the biggest Windows Phone supporter with 32.3% market share in the United States, followed by Cricket with 21.5%, T-Mobile with 18.1%, Verizon with 12.3%, MetroPCS with 4.2%, Family Mobile with 3.7% and other with 8%.

No high-end smartphones will be released for at least a couple of months

Microsoft has recently confirmed it will launch its newest affordable smartphone, the Lumia 640 in the United States. T-Mobile and MetroPCS have been confirmed to carry this handset, which might become as serious contender for the Lumia 635 if priced accordingly.

Entry-level smartphones sell pretty well in the United States, but the lack of high-end devices might not allow Windows Phone market share to increase by much in this country.

The good news is the next flagship smartphone to be launched by Microsoft is not that far away, as the company confirmed it would release it when Windows 10 for Phones is out later this summer.
