It will take some time until the final version lands

Kodi is a powerful media player and entertainment hub that you might know better under the name of the XBMC. The name change occurred a few months ago and this is the first major upgrade for the 14.x branch.

This is still just a Beta version, so users should only upgrade if they really want to test some of the fixes implemented so far. It might not seem like much, but Kodi is a complex piece of software and all the changes are usually relevant, even if it's not right away. Kodi 14 was released back in December, 2013, so it's not like a lot of time has passed since the big release.

Users need to keep in mind that this is still under development and the final version might include some fixes and changes that are not available just yet. In any case, it's important to know that testing this release can mess up your settings, add-ons, and other components for Kodi.

Kodi 14.2 promises some important fixes

Don't underestimate this release just because it says maintenance version on the label. This kind of release is very important in the cycle of an application, and especially important in the life of a big application like Koi, which needs constant attention.

"We are proud to announce the first beta of Kodi 14.2 in which we further try to improve stability. As you may all know by now, we have a new name, a new logo, and a wide variety of new features, but underneath the new coat of paint remains the same software we all love," reads the official announcement.

The developers said that the playback on MP3 has been improved, support has been added for the rtmp protocol, the application now properly scans for newly added episodes, and various bugs have been found and fixed in PVR add-ons.

You can download the latest Kodi release from Softpedia and give it a go, even if it's still a Beta version.
