Reality star opens up about coming into an industry where the skinnier the woman, the more beautiful she’s deemed

At the rate Kim Kardashian is going exposing herself – and has been for years – you wouldn’t imagine her as the insecure, shy type. Shortly after breaking the Internet with a very revealing spread for Paper Magazine, she opens up to Elle UK to reveal that she wasn’t always as confident as she comes across from her social media accounts and magazine appearances.

In fact, there was a time when a teen Kim Kardashian used to pray every night that her breasts would stop growing, because she was unhappy with her body.

Today, she has a figure that millions of women aspire to – and some of them even go under the knife to achieve it, so she has every reason to be happy and confident.

13-year-old Kim hated her body

Much like an average teenage girl, Kim Kardashian used to look around her and see figures on other girls that she would rather have, in lieu of her own. She developed early and had curves, just like she does today, but she wanted to be tall and slender.

So yes, much like an average teenage girl, Kim had some confidence and body image issues. Luckily, she also had a father who saw that she was going through a rough time and who did his best to help her out through them: Kim recalls the late attorney Robert Kardashian wrote her a letter to let her know that she was beautiful and special as she was, and that she didn’t “need” to change anything about her appearance.

Until that happened, though, Kim would lock herself in the bathroom and cry and pray that her breasts would stop growing, she reveals. They didn’t right then, and she’s probably happy about it right now.

Growing into owning a curvy figure

Kim Kardashian came up in an industry in which the thinner the woman, the more beautiful she was deemed. Regardless of how she broke on the scene (because we all how that came to happen), there is no denying that she didn’t seem to fit right in because she just happened to have a figure unlike any other on a celebrity.

Kim herself puts it so well: the “perfect” female body belonged to the likes of Cindy Crawford, so she was totally out of place on the scene. At the same time, she’s proud of what she’s achieved in terms of diversity in the notion of beauty for the female body.

“It’s good to break the mould and recreate one. I’m an Armenian girl, I have shape, and it turned out people liked that. That makes me feel good about myself and about other women for being so supportive. I am a confident woman, but I didn’t just arrive confident – it has built over the years and that is a big part of who I am now,” Kim says.

Say what you will about Kim (and trust us, a lot has been said already), but the way she changed beauty trends by simply having a curvy figure is an achievement no one can take from her. It’s true, she may have had to resort to some plastic surgery for it, but that’s an entirely different discussion altogether.

About those hacked nudes

When hackers broke into several iCloud accounts earlier this year and stole and leaked countless celebrity nudes, Kim Kardashian’s name somehow wasn’t part of the bigger conversation, but that’s most likely because the media had an Oscar winner to focus on, Jennifer Lawrence.

Still, Kim too had a few revealing selfies leaked online, for the entire world to see. Asked about them by Elle, she says she won’t complain because she feels she’s not entitled to because she’s done so many revealing shots already.

Somehow, she’s missing the whole point of the hack being illegal and focuses on just what people saw of her in the pics. In other words, since she’s taking it all off for a magazine, there’s almost no harm in having revealing personal photos hacked and leaked online.
