Kanye West says some Kanye things in Style.com interview

One of the most ridiculed red carpet looks at the Grammys 2015, which took place earlier this month, was Kim Kardashian’s Jean Paul Gaultier gown that looked like a bathrobe that would have looked better in Liberace’s wardrobe, if not on Liberace himself.

Still, she was visibly thrilled to be wearing it, but her enthusiasm wasn’t even half of what Kanye West must have been feeling. Kim admitted on the red carpet that her husband had picked out the dress for her to wear, so of course he was feeling proud!

The best red carpet outfit ever

Kanye recent sat down for an interview with Style.com and he spoke at length about his wife, whom he calls his muse and of whom he’s thrilled to say she’s the muse of many other designers.

Asked if he could name some of the most iconic red carpet outfits of recent years, Kanye jumps at the chance of praising Kim once more - and indirectly himself, since as noted above, he had picked out her Grammy robe-like gown.

But hey, at least he admits he can’t be objective about it.

“I think the best red-carpet look of all time - if not, one of the top five - was my wife’s look at the Grammys. You know what [Jean Paul Gaultier] just did. He said, ‘[Expletive] the [expletive]. I’m making real [expletive]. I’m doing perfume and couture.’ And by focusing on that, he delivered… I just think for me as a person that dresses the most photographed person in the world, I get bored with ready-to-wear really easily,” he says.

Obviously, Kanye considers himself Kim’s stylist, since he so casually mentions the fact that she dresses her, this “modern-day Helmut Newton girl.” Again, obviously, he believes he did an excellent job with the sparkly gown, even though most people in the world, including those who actually know a thing or two about fashion, disagree with him.

Kanye is being Kanye

Late last week, Kanye finally unveiled the results of his collaboration with Adidas Originals, a Yeezy collection halfway between sporty and high fashion, which he presented on the first day of New York Fashion Week.

For the big event, he enjoyed support from some of the biggest names in showbiz (Jay Z and Beyonce, Rihanna, Diddy) and the fashion industry (Anna Wintour). Reviews from fashion critics weren’t exactly glowing, but they were better than those he got for his first forays into fashion.

Now, he gets to promote this new collection in this new interview, which is riddled with Kanyeisms and vague attempts at humility, mixed with moments of self-praise. The entire thing reads like a marathon through Kanye’s mind, and it’s worth a read if you find him interesting as a celebrity and especially if you think he’s a genius. He does.

Still, no matter how much support he gets and no matter of the kind of money that’s being invested into his endeavors, be they in music, film or fashion, Kanye will always be Kanye: he always talks like he’s the underdog and as if the entire world is against him, plotting to bring him down. The possibility that he might simply not be as good as he imagines himself to be doesn’t even enter his mind.
