Gamers will also get some other Christmas surprises

The development team at Double Helix and Microsoft announce that those who are playing the second season of Killer Instinct will be able to get access to an all new character called Riptor starting December 17 and that the dinosaur fighter will deliver a unique set of moves that changes the title in significant ways.

The team has released a beautifully looking screenshot of the new character and some information about it on the official forums.

Apparently, Riptor is only one year old when it appears in Killer Instinct, which makes sense given its power as it grows older. The new character is a female cybernetic raptor that can use almost all body parts as weapons and will pose a big challenge to even the most capable gamers.

The team adds that “Familiar with all of Riptor’s original moves and inputs? Well guess what – they are all back, intact… except for one, upperclaw - it's been replaced with ‘clever girl’. We’ll show off her full repertoire on the stream on Monday.”

The developers also say that it will use the control scheme of Killer Instinct in new ways, with Riptor always delivering a flame attack on HP and a tale strike on HK. The player will be able to create combos based on them.

Riptor looks like an interesting characters and it will probably be a hit with the community, although the company is probably already prepared for reactions that talk about how overpowered it is.

Killer Instinct has a long future on the Xbox One

The fighting game that’s exclusively offered on the new Microsoft home console is designed to appeal to a large number of players, and it seems that the development team has long-term plans to expand it.

At the moment, the character stories that were introduced in the first season will not be expanded upon because the company does not have the resources required.

Double Helix adds, “Here’s a quick preview of what the S2 story features: intro cut-scene with narration, post-fight story beats (loading screens) after every fight, rival cut-scene with narration, and a finale with narration. This new flow was based on direct community feedback that you'd rather have more story than multiple endings.”

Killer Instinct might be one of the reasons why Capcom has announced that its new Street Fighter V will only be launched on the PC and the PlayStation 4 home console from Sony.
