Actress agrees to bare it all to make a stand on how “it really doesn’t matter what shape you are”

Keira Knightley isn’t like most Hollywood actresses, and yes, the fact that she has somewhat withdrawn from the spotlight in recent years contributes to that. When she’s not doing indie movies that she knows for a fact would never make her rich beyond her dreams, she uses her platform to draw attention to a very important issue: the way media twists our perception of real beauty.

In 2004, Keira starred opposite Clive Owen in “King Arthur” and on one poster for the film she appeared with a considerably larger bosom than she displayed in the actual film. That was her first brush with Hollywood trickery, when the studio Photoshopped a pair of larger breasts on her, without as much as consulting her.

At the time, she wasn’t exactly at liberty to speak out against the practice (not when she was still promoting the movie, at least), but she’s totally letting it loose now.

Keira agrees to do full frontal for Interview Magazine

The latest issue of Interview Magazine comes with a gorgeous black and white spread with Keira, and in that spread, you will also find a photo in which she goes topless.

The photo has her standing, facing the camera, with her hands in the pockets of the pants. She’s wearing elbow-long lace gloves and has wet hair, and there’s a certain air of defiance about her as she makes absolutely no attempt at covering herself, like most models do in this kind of revealing shots.

However, what stands out even more about the photo is the fact that it’s not been Photoshopped to make Keira’s breasts larger. In fact, they have not been tampered with at all, because you can still see they’re uneven.

This was Keira’s one condition for doing the shoot: she would bare it all if only she received assurances that no one would make her breasts larger in Photoshop.

Making a stand: beauty isn’t a standard, it’s diversity

Keira is no exhibitionist but she’s definitely not against the idea of using her body to send a very powerful message: showbiz and the media have been teaching us wrong. They have been telling us that beauty is a standard, when the real beauty is synonymous with diversity.

Beauty doesn’t mean we have to strive to look a certain way, a way that’s not natural to us; beauty means we have to embrace what we’ve been given.

“I’ve had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters,” Keira says in a new interview with The Times, explaining the reasoning behind her decision to bare it all.

“It does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are. I think women’s bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame. Our society is so photographic now, it becomes more difficult to see all of those different varieties of shape,” the actress continues.

So to show that beauty is diversity, she’s showing the world that small breasts are beautiful too. This goes out to all those who believe the bigger the better.
