Kathy Griffin would have been fired from Fashion Police either way, says new report

The other day, comedienne Kathy Griffin announced that she’d decided to leave E!’s Fashion Police after just 7 episodes because it was simply not what she expected and that it was too mean for her to be a part of it. She made it sound as if she was the only one calling the shots, but a new report indicates otherwise.

If Kathy hadn’t left when she did, surprising producers with the announcement, she would have been fired either way, it has emerged. Producers were furious with her over comments she’d made the day before in an interview, and with her constant opposing of every one of their ideas.

Kathy wasn’t easy to work with, apparently

In her official statement, Kathy made it sound as if she’d been tricked into agreeing to replace Joan Rivers on the fashion show and that, despite her highest hopes, nothing of what she expected to happen happened.

You can see it in full below. She also said that her particular brand of humor would never be as offensive as the one on Fashion Police, so she’d continue with her TV show and comedy tour instead.

Insiders with the production tell a different story to TMZ: Kathy wanted things to go her way and couldn’t adapt to the reality, namely that Fashion Police remained the same show as ever.

She wasn’t too easy to work with, but the final drop came after a meeting with producers, when the introduction of a new segment was discussed. It would have been called “W**re Score” had not the idea been rejected by everyone as being too offensive.

Still, in her most recent interview, Kathy talked about it at length, even making it sound as if she was the only one who opposed. Producers weren’t happy when they heard that, so just hours before she handed in her resignation, they were supposedly meeting behind her back, to discuss letting her go.

Fashion Police is out of 2 co-hosts

Whichever side is telling the truth, the bottom line is that Fashion Police is 2 co-hosts short. The legendary Joan Rivers passed away in August last year, and E! decided to continue with the show, keeping Rivers’ daughter Melissa as executive producer.

After the Oscars 2015, the you-know-what hit the proverbial fan when Giuliana Rancic discussed Zendaya Coleman’s dreadlocks, commenting that the hairstyle made her think she smelled of “patchouli oil and weed.”

Outrage followed instantly, fueled by Kelly Osbourne’s public threat to quit if Rancic didn’t apologize within 24 hours. She did apologize, but Osbourne still left - either she quit because she was fed up, or she was fired because she dared to speak against the show that put food on her table.

With Griffin out, Fashion Police, which is scheduled to return on March 30, is out of 2 hosts because E! is yet to announce replacements. Rumor has it that they’re negotiating with Khloe Kardashian, Amber Rose or Chrissy Teigen to stand in for Osbourne, but they still have to find another person.

Meanwhile, buzz online is starting to pick up that maybe the time has come to call it a day on the show altogether.
