Katie Holmes hasn’t been seen with any potential love interest in public since the breakdown of her marriage to Tom Cruise in 2012, but that doesn’t mean that she’s not seeing anyone: she just learned to hide it better, to play any romantic relationships closer to the vest.

For more than a year, she’s been hooking up with fellow actor and good friend Jamie Foxx, People magazine confirms with someone from her entourage. The rumor first popped up online in February 2014.

It’s not serious

However, don’t expect these two to walk down the red carpet hand in hand anytime soon, because it’s not happening: the same source adds that the relationship is more of the “friends with benefits” kind than the type that leads to more serious commitment.

“This is not some intense romance,” the tipster explains. “Jamie and Katie are friends and have been for a long time. They are two adults who are attractive and single, and so apparently conclusions will be drawn.”

The insider even urges fans not to jump to conclusions and assume that Katie and Jamie would run off together soon to get hitched: their thing is just a casual hookup, nothing serious.

At the time the rumor first emerged online, it was said that they’d already been seeing each other for a couple of months, after meeting over the summer of 2013, when Foxx fell for her. If this is true, that would mean that Katie and Jamie have managed to dodge the paparazzi since late 2013.

Katie Holmes got burned once, is now more cautious

Even assuming they wanted this relationship to go anywhere, chances are neither would say anything about it to the media or, for that matter, do one of those staged photo-ops that celebrities are so fond of, particularly at turning points in their life, like a pregnancy, a new lover or an engagement.

Considering how badly things went with Tom and the amount of intrusion and unwanted attention she had to deal with because of it, no wonder she’s not eager to share this part of her life anymore.

Katie started dating (or auditioned for the role of wife for) Tom Cruise in 2005. They were married one year later and had a child, Suri, with Katie deciding to put her career on the backburner before she even got pregnant, supposedly at Tom’s request, who wanted a wife and not a celebrity on his arm.

Talk of trouble persisted throughout the marriage because of his affiliation with the Church of Scientology: Cruise is their biggest spokesperson. Rumor has it she arranged to file the divorce papers by hiding from him in New York under false pretenses and using burners to stay in touch with her attorneys.

Neither ever went into the details of the split. Contrary to how divorces usually play out in showbiz, theirs was almost-record quick, which meant 2 things: a solid prenup was in place, and more importantly, Tom and Scientology wanted as little media attention as possible.
