14 DAY TRIAL // Renee Zellweger made headlines around the world when she came back to the spotlight last week, making a red carpet appearance at an Elle event and apparently looking very different from how she used to look back in the day when she was still the most in-demand actress around.
The backlash reopened the debate on the impossible expectations set for women in showbiz, and how these force them to turn to plastic surgery in a desperate bid to stay youthful for longer, even if that means losing themselves in the new woman that emerges from the OR.
Well, Renee isn’t the only celebrity deemed “unrecognizable” these days.
Kate Gosselin sports new, more toned-down look
Kate Gosselin, mother of 8 and TLC reality star, is also looking very different from how she did when we saw her last: gone is the caked-up makeup, and gone are the glossy lips and the perfect, shiny curls. As the photo attached to this article can confirm, these days, Kate looks more natural but also healthier and younger.
This is Kate at a yard sale she organized with the purpose of getting rid of clutter from around the house, raising some money and also contributing a bit to a local good cause. To those who are used to seeing her on TV appearances only and in magazines, this is a shock: for once, she doesn’t look perfectly put together.
Glamour magazine even deems her “unrecognizable,” in a way that Renee also was during her more recent red carpet run. This might also include an insinuation that Kate might have gotten some work done on her face, a rumor that, we’re sure you know, has plagued her before.
From what we’re seeing, Kate doesn’t look “unrecognizable,” though seeing her with longer, sleeker hair and no makeup does make for a strong impact. Then again, any other celebrity without makeup looks “different” than she does when she has a village of people to get her all dolled up.
Kate is making a serious comeback to TV
This summer, TLC aired a 2-part special meant to help fans of the long-canceled series Kate Plus 8 (formerly known as Jon & Kate Plus 8 pre-divorce from Jon Gosselin) catch up with her and her 8 children, to see what they’d been doing since the last time they were on TV.
The special wasn’t a monster hit in the ratings, but it did confirm for network bosses that interest was still there where Kate was concerned. So, next year, she’s coming back to her previous home, with a new series of specials.
The yard sale where the photo was taken was actually crawling with production people, so we’ll see more of it when the new show starts airing. Also there was ex-husband Jon Gosselin, who apparently dropped by unannounced to collect his stuff, because he’d heard that Kate was planning to sell it.
However, it’s more likely that he was asked by producers to make a cameo. Perhaps he and Kate got to set aside their differences and talk it out, because they have been at each other's throats since the divorce. Hopefully, a camera was around when this happened.
