Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld is completely delusional in all matters not pertaining to the fashion world, which is why he delivers the best and more memorable quotes ever. Whether he’s putting in his 2 cents on anorexia and the importance of never wearing sweatpants, or revealing his allergy to flip flops and desire to marry his cat Miss Choupette, or voicing his hatred for fat people, Karl will always speak his mind freely no matter what you ask him.

Which is why Stylist magazine asked him what he’d do if he were made ruler of England for one day, Cosmopolitan reveals.

Lagerfeld, the head of the style police

Lagerfeld can – and will! – say the most outrageous and politically incorrect things you could ever think of, but it never seems to bother him that people are offended.

He knows his truth and he sticks to it – like that time he rubbished reports that the fashion industry was encouraging eating disorders among models with pressure to be size 0, by saying that this type of criticism came only from fat and frustrated women who ate chips and burgers on the couch in front of the TV, calling models “skinny” and “ugly.”

If you think that’s offensive, just wait to hear what he says about the state paying benefits to families in need: according to Karl, only well-dressed people should receive any kind of governmental assistance, because all the others are just squandering the money away.

Clearly, to him, there is no bigger crime than that of not being fashionable.

“I would make myself head of the style police and we would fight fiercely against sloppiness,” he tells the magazine, when asked what measures he’d take if he were made ruler for one day. “Being well turned-out is not a question of means. Benefits for families would be replaced by maintenance bonuses for those who make an effort.”

A fashionable body, an active mind

Education is just as important as staying in trend, he continues: he would force people to study the dictionary, like his mother used to do to him when he was a kid, making him read one page a day and then checking up on him at night to see what he’d learned.

He would also encourage people to learn to speak at least 3 foreign languages because not only would that open doors for new possibilities to them (those fashionable enough to receive state hand-outs and use them to travel, we assume), but it would also “help [them] to avoid Alzheimer’s disease.”

Karl Lagerfeld is nothing if not considerate to the mental health of his subjects. As long as they’re not ugly.

The New York Times recently ran a cover story of one of Lagerfeld’s most famous male models, Brad Kroenig, who is part of a clique of models who accompany him around the globe, known as Karl’s Boys. Brad and Karl, and everyone else too, deny that there’s anything romantic going on, saying they’re just business partners spending time together.

Karl even refers to his Boys as the genetically ideal family, because, he tells the reporter, “I hate ugly people. Very depressing.”
