KDE Applications 15.04.1 are now available in Kubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) via a handy PPA repository that is available right now.

Just a couple of days ago the Kubuntu devs released the new and excellent KDE Plasma 5.3.1 for Kubuntu, and now it's time to also get KDE Applications 15.04.1 for the same operating system. Even if Kubuntu won't get these packages in the official PPA, it doesn't mean users can't enjoy all the good things they bring, including a gazillion fixes and improvements.

Kubuntu was the first in the series to implement the new KDE packages, including the latest Plasma 5 desktop, but some crucial fixes have been released after the 15.04 launch back in April and it would be a shame not to take advantage.

Kubuntu can still get significant changes

Kubuntu is one of the few distros in the Ubuntu family that can still benefit from huge updates long after it's been released, even if it's the form of a PPA. These repositories are easy to set up.

"Packages for the release of KDE Applications 15.04.1 are available for Kubuntu 15.04. You can get it from the Kubuntu Backports PPA. Bugs in the packaging should be reported to kubuntu-ppa on Launchpad. Bugs in the software to KDE," reads the official announcement.

The installation of KDE Applications 15.04.1 can be done very easily just by adding a PPA to the operating system and upgrading the system. Open a terminal and enter the following commands (you will need to be root in order to make this work):

code
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Please keep in mind that the update will take a while and that you will need to reboot the system to complete it. You can also download Kubuntu 15.04 from Softpedia and give it a spin.
