The 3Ds continues to be the best-selling piece of hardware

The Japanese video game chart is a good way to evaluate the fortunes of big launches in an environment that’s very different from that in North America or Europe, and this week the big lesson is that the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 cannot in any way challenge the Wii U when it comes to home console sales.

The biggest seller for the week that ended on September 28 in terms of hardware is the 3DS, as the handheld device continues to stay at the top of the hardware chart, managing to once again move more than 30,000 units to gamers, an impressive performance given the age of the device, but a drop from last week, when sales stood at 43,592, is clear and might accentuate in the coming months.

The PlayStation Vita handheld from Sony has managed to post an increase in its own numbers and now stands at 16,716 devices delivered to customers, a solid boost from the 11,857 it managed the week before.

According to data from Media Create quoted by NeoGAF, the Wii U is the best-selling home console in Japan, with 9,950 devices sold in one week, another increase coming from 8,396.

The PlayStation 4 from Sony has registered a decrease from 8,939 to 8,033, and it is followed by the PS3 with just over 6,000 consoles sold.

The Xbox One from Microsoft only managed to move 1,113 devices to its own customer base, a decline of about 200 from the previous week.

Super Smash Bros. is the best-selling video game once again

Super Smash Bros. might only be out on the 3DS handheld at the moment, but the Nintendo title is already a big success and has managed to deliver another 109,811 copies to fans, with the total now close to 1.4 million.

The Legend Of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki II from Nihon Falcom for the PlayStation Vita is the best new entry in the Japanese software chart, with 86,283 games sold during its debut week.

The final position on the podium is occupied by DanganRonpa: Another Episode from Spike Chunsoft.

The rest of the top ten includes: Yo-kai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke, The Legend Of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki II, Haikyu!! Tsunage! Itadaki no Keshiki!!, Fatal Frame: Oracle of the Sodden Raven, Dungeon Travelers 2: Ouritsu Tokoshan to Mamono no Fuuin, Destiny, and La Corda d'Oro 3: Another Sky feat. Amane Gakuen.

The Wii U launch of Super Smash Bros. will probably also generate major sales when it arrives later in November.
