Aquaman will be different from what we expect, Momoa says

With production on “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” heavy under way and Warners’ plans to release several other DC Comics-based movies in the coming years, much ink has been wasted this year on speculation on Jason Momoa’s participation as Aquaman.

Confirmation of it finally came in October, when it was announced that he would, indeed, be playing the famous superhero. With news of this out in the open, Momoa is at liberty, to some extent, to talk about his involvement in the Justice League superhero franchise the studio is building brick by brick.

Aquaman will first appear in next year’s “Batman v. Superman,” which is the first installment in the aforementioned “Justice League” franchise and not the sequel to “Man of Steel,” as you might be tempted to believe. However, he’ll just be making a cameo in that one.

Rumor has it that Aquaman will get plenty more screentime in “Justice League” 1 and 2, and the most in his standalone pic, which is scheduled for release in July 2018. Speaking at the Comic-Con Experience in Sao Paulo, Brazil the other day, Momoa promised that the character would be something worth the waiting on part of the fans.

Aquaman, in case you’re not familiar with the comics, isn’t exactly the scariest or the toughest superhero out there. A running online joke says that his only power is his ability to talk to dolphins, which is clearly not true.

Either way, Momoa told the panel that he was convinced Warners has managed to come up with a perfect Aquaman, one that was constructed in such a way as to require him for the part. Momoa’s roles are famously physical.

He also said that he wanted Snyder to direct the “Aquaman” standalone pic, but for the time being, that’s probably just wishful thinking on his part, since he’s one of the busiest directors in Hollywood right now and there’s no guarantee that he might want to linger around with Warners after he’s done with “Justice League 2.”
