The package updates are quite significant

The Intel Graphics Installer for Linux, a tool that allows users to easily install the latest graphics and video drivers for their Intel graphics hardware, has been upgraded and comes with the latest Intel Graphics stack, among other things.

Intel is the only company that actually bothers to make this kind of installer for the Linux platform. It can be argued that it's rather limited and that it supports too few Linux distributions, but at least it's there and it's updated often.

Like any other tool that comes with sensitive packages, the Intel Graphics Installer for Linux should be treated with respect. It's capable of ruining your system, despite Intel's best intentions.

For example, you might be running elementary OS Freya Beta. This is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, which means it might be possible to get the Intel Graphics Installer to work.

On the other hand, elementary OS is a finely tuned distro and the developers don't recommend installing stuff beyond what they are providing through their own repositories. So, the lesson is simple: unless you have an officially supported system, you need to stay away.

Get the latest Intel drivers

The purpose of this application is quite straightforward: to provide an easy way for users to get the latest packages, and thus, the best performance out of their operating systems, provided they are running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or Fedora 20.

The main feature is, of course, the 2014Q3 Intel Graphics Stack Release, which comes with these packages: Linux Kernel 3.16.2, Mesa - 10.3, xf86-video-intel 2.99.911, Libdrm 2.4.56, Libva 1.4.0, vaapi intel-driver 1.4.0, Cairo 1.12.16, Xserver Xorg 1.16.0, and Intel-gpu-tools 1.8.

"The Intel(r) Graphics Installer for Linux allows you to easily install the latest graphics and video drivers for your Intel graphics hardware. This allows you to stay current with the latest enhancements, optimizations, and fixes to the Intel Graphics Stack to ensure the best user experience with your Intel graphics hardware. The Intel Graphics Installer for Linux is available for the latest versions of Ubuntu and Fedora."

"Due to the complex package dependencies of the binary graphics drivers for the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3600 Series used in the Intel AtomTM Processor N2600 Series and Intel AtomTM Processor N2800 Series, supported drivers are only available through your device manufacturer," say the Intel devs in the announcement.

More details about Intel Graphics Installer for Linux can be found on the official website. The latest version of the Intel Graphics Installer, 1.0.7, can be downloaded from Softpedia, but keep in mind that you will need to be root in order to make it work.
