One of the most important Xbox One exclusives has yet to come. Many exclusive games have the potential to boost a certain console’s sales, and Quantum Break is definitely one of those titles.

Developed by Remedy, Quantum Break is an action game that blends QTEs, frequent cutscenes, and frantic gameplay, in order to offer players an immersive experience.

What we know

Although a release date for Quantum Break hasn’t been disclosed yet, we already know quite a few things about Remedy’s exclusive Xbox One title. Some of the background story has been made official already, so we already know that it’s set in a fictional universe where a time travel experiment has gone wrong.

The game will feature three protagonists: Beth Wilder, Jack Joyce and Paul Serene. All of them have a common ability which makes them special: they can manipulate time.

However, each of these three characters has a different time-related ability, like the power to see the future or stop time. Two of them are hunted by a corporation because of their powers.

The plot was written so that it would reflect the latest theories in physics. Remedy confirmed it hired a consultant scientist in this matter.

Gameplay-wise, there are only a few videos available showing some parts of the game, but it’s enough to make an idea of how Quantum Break will feel and play.

The “bullet time” effect that made Max Payne series so popular among fans of the action genre is present in Quantum Break as well, which is understandable considering that both games are developed by the same studio.

There will be quite a few QTE events in Quantum Break as well, and a lot of action too. The game is played from a cover-based third-person perspective, similar to Max Payne.

Apart from that, there aren’t any other details available regarding gameplay mechanics, but we expect Remedy to offer more information on the matter as we’re getting closer to release.

There’s one other interesting thing that Remedy mentioned soon after the game’s official reveal. It appears that there will be a Quantum Break TV series launched around the same time as the game.

According to Remedy, “how you play the game impacts the show, and the show informs how you play the game.” This sounds both awesome and complicated, so it will be interesting to see how producers will be able to manage that.

Why it matters

Quantum Break is supposed to be the first game in a new IP from Remedy Entertainment and one that will try to mix gaming with TV show entertainment features in order to keep the players more engaged for a longer period of time.

Just like most of other console exclusives, Quantum Break has the potential to boost Xbox One sales, so that’s more reason for Microsoft to make it at least great.

Quantum Break’s launch date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but a tentative timeframe has been set for Q2 2015. Hopefully, there won’t be any delays for Remedy’s upcoming triple A game.
