Our Incoming 2015 series focuses on the most important game launches of the next 12 months, and next up we talk about Persona 5, one of the most exciting upcoming games in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series.

What we know

Persona 5 was officially announced back in September 2014, and while we don't know when exactly it will be launched, developer Atlus confirmed it would be released on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 sometime in 2015.

We also know that Persona 5 will be built on a special game engine developed by Atlus. This actually may be one of the reasons for the game's long development period. Anyway, this is just a speculation and may not matter at all given the fact that Persona 5 is going to come out this year.

A few tidbits about the game have been revealed by Katsuro Hashino, the game's director, such as the fact that Persona 5 will concentrate on freedom and how the characters will achieve it.

Fans of the series already know that each game in the Persona franchise has a color theme. So, just like Persona 3 and Persona 4 had blue and yellow themes, respectively, Persona 5 has been confirmed to have a red theme.

Persona 5 will also be a game that will be more approachable by newcomers. The setting will remain within a high school, as with the previous installments in the series.

Apart from that, there aren't any details on the new title, but as we're getting closer to launch we expect more info to be revealed by Atlus, even if just in the form of teasers and trailers.

Why it matters

The fifth installment in the Persona series has been in development for several years now, with the first rumors dating back to 2009.

Persona 5 is meant to attract more players to the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series, and if developers deliver on their promise, it may be one of the most important titles in the franchise.

As the hype around the game will begin to build later this year, we will probably find out more reasons why Persona 5 is going to be a major title for 2015.
