Hideo Kojima and Konami have released a joint statement confirming that the legendary Japanese games designer is still 100% involved in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, effectively dismissing any rumors about Kojima's early departure.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is eagerly awaited by the franchise's millions of fans from all around the world, but the last few days have been filled with all sorts of rumors about the fate of series creator Hideo Kojima.

Everything started when Konami transitioned the Twitter accounts of the series, and then modified the cover of The Phantom Pain to remove the mention of "A Hideo Kojima" game.

Konami and Kojima confirm the involvement of the designer

Now, after seeing a confirmation from Konami that it's working on a separate Metal Gear series besides a successor to The Phantom Pain, the Japanese company has posted another statement this time with a confirmation from Kojima that he is still involved in the development of the upcoming game and that fans should look forward to its debut in September.

"I want to reassure fans that I am 100% involved and will continue working on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," Kojima says, according to the official website. "I’m determined to make it the greatest game I’ve directed to date. Don’t miss it!"

In the same statement, Konami once again mentions that it's going to "continue to develop and distribute top-quality content" in the Metal Gear series, starting with a new title for which it's already begun to hire new developers.

The future fate of Hideo Kojima isn't discussed, so it's possible that the designer will depart from Konami after a career spanning several decades at the Japanese company.

As of yet, however, nothing is certain. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is coming on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 1, and on PC on September 15, worldwide.
