Hex: Shards of Fate will be getting its first ever piece of single-player content soon, in the form of the Frost Ring Arena.

Hex is a massively multiplayer online trading card game created by Cryptozoic Entertainment, the result of a greatly successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, and the first ever card game to feature specific digital features that are unique to the medium, such as card socketing and transformation.

Trading card games usually rely on players buying copious amounts of random booster packs that can contain either extremely valuable cards or complete fluff, and Hex is no stranger to the model.

It's a free-to-play game where you can grind your way to greatness or use the magical powers of a loaded wallet to get the necessary cards to defeat your opponents, provided, of course, that you also possess the necessary skill to do so.

Hex: Shards of Fate is currently in open beta, and if you want to register and possibly get access, you can do so on the official Hex website.

The first PvE content sounds pretty exciting

The Frost Ring Arena represents the first piece of PvE content in the game, consisting of a four-stage gauntlet where players have to defeat computer-controller opponents from a lineup of over 30, with 7 different bosses.

Players who manage to survive and prove their skill can earn in-game gold, equipment, as well as exclusive PvE reward cards that they can then use to upgrade their decks. Gamers can also buy and sell gear through the auction house.

The expansion will add a variety of brand new cards to the already extensive pool of available creatures and spells, and will apparently be similar to the model used by Blizzard Entertainment with Curse of Naxxramas: A Hearthstone Adventure, having several wings for players to go through.

Each of the wings will host random villains and a final boss, which means that each playthrough of the Frost Ring Arena will offer a different experience.

Furthermore, the AI-controlled adversaries will use some special tactics, making the encounters different from the regular player versus player battles. Some of them will be able to counter your abilities, while others will use a specific school of magic to take you out.

The various matches you'll be able to enjoy will also come with a slew of challenges, that, once completed, will bestow a buff on you, with effects that can empower your troops or even prevent you from losing.

In addition to the Frost Ring Arena content, the latest patch also introduces a huge number of features and fixes, which you can read by hitting the button below.
