Bethesda explains how the new ESO Plus subscription is going to work in the upcoming The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited multiplayer experience, and what advantages those who choose to enroll will have as opposed to regular players.

The Elder Scrolls Online rolled out last year across PC and Mac platforms but, while it benefitted from a large marketing campaign, it didn't exactly break any records and many fans soon let their mandatory subscriptions expire in order to try something else.

Earlier this week, Zenimax Online Studios and Bethesda confirmed that starting this spring, the necessary subscription to play the game would be no more. Instead, all owners of the game would be able to play it online for as long as they want.

ESO Plus is a new membership

However, the companies also revealed that a different ESO Plus premium subscription would be available that includes a lot of benefits for those who want to enlist.

Now, as part of a special piece on the official website, Zenimax Online Studios explains just how ESO plus works and how existing subscribers will be automatically transitioned onto ESO Plus for the remainder of their active days.

Those who have automatic renewal of the subscription turned on will also be shifted seamlessly to the new membership system. Those who want to try it out can buy it for periods of time like 30, 90, or 180 days.

Plenty of benefits are included

Among the benefits offered to ESO Plus members are things like an allotment of crowns to use in the new Crown Store to buy unique mounts, vanity pets, costumes, as well as health potions or soul gems.

They'll also get access to all of the downloadable content released for The Elder Scrolls Online, not to mention a 10% bonus to all experience and gold gain, as well as crafting research and inspiration.

If you let your subscription expire, you'll still keep the crowns, DLC rewards, and other things, but you won't have access to the add-ons or the 10% bonus.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited rolls out on PC and Mac in March, and on PS4 and Xbox One in June.
