Ninja Theory's upcoming hack-and-slash game Hellblade is shaping up to be a really interesting addition to the future libraries of PlayStation 4 and PC gamers.

An interview with a member of the development team on PlayStation Access has revealed a wealth of new information regarding the video game, pointing to a heavy focus on a suggestive artistic style, on combat and on story.

Product Development Head Dominic Matthews has stated that work on Hellblade is moving along just fine, and that fans of the Devil May Cry series will no doubt feel the familiarity of its combat system.

The game draws a lot of inspiration from one-on-one fighting titles, and combat will be fluid and will require a lot of tactical thinking.

The system will be skill-based and will encourage players to experiment and explore new ways in which to combine moves and abilities, something that Ninja Theory fans will truly enjoy.

Most battles will be between the player character and one to three enemies at a time, in order to keep a certain level on involvement, and for the most part, players will be able to enjoy them using an over-the-shoulder camera angle.

A different kind of AAA game

Matthews has further added that Hellblade's world will be dynamic and will feel alive, and that the studio is committed to creating a unique and engaging experience, through visuals, mechanics and soundtrack.

The studio describes their effort as an "indie AAA game," stating that it would have the same high production values that any modern blockbuster has, but a much smaller scope.

Hellblade is expected sometime later this year on the PlayStation 4 home console from Sony and on PC. Ninja Theory has mentioned something about a possible beta test on PC, and pledged to make the game modding-friendly, in order for the community to be able to create new and exciting content.
