Apple’s visionary leader would have turned 60 today

They say brilliant minds like Newton or Einstein come once every few hundred years. These days, the term “genius” gets tossed around quite a lot. If someone asked you to name one today, chances are several will spring to mind.

It isn’t clear what genius is. One could say it’s a person who displays tremendous intellectual ability, while others would consider aspects like creativity, or originality as being the most important. But everyone can agree that making all-new advances in a domain of knowledge is worthy of the moniker.

Born February 24, 1955, Steve Jobs was by all accounts such a person. Some will argue that much of what he did was based on existing ideas and inventions. Well, if this is what stealing ideas is, then this guy was a genius at weaving them into products for everyone to use.

Had his cancer not returned, Jobs would have been 60 today. And, boy, would he have been proud of Tim Cook, his successor. But one has to wonder where Apple would be today with Jobs still at its helm. Would the Apple Car even be considered? Would the Apple Watch be launching in spring? Would iOS be flat?

Whether or not Apple is better as an organization today, one thing is for sure: the ship is still sailing far ahead of its competitors, or should I say its followers.
