Halle Berry is branching out. The 48-year-old actress, who has been dividing her time between Paris and Los Angeles, is feeling inspired by the French women she comes in contact with every day, so she’s looking to bring some of their timeless elegance into Target stores across the US.

Berry, like many other stars out there, is launching a lingerie collection, one that will be both very chic and affordable, she promises in a new interview with Yahoo! Style.

And she knows the perfect reason every woman out there should invest in a good bra – and matching panties.

Prevent sagging with a good bra, stay chic at all times

According to the Oscar-winning actress, there’s more to a good bra than just the pleasure of seeing (or removing) a beautiful piece of undergarment: it also helps prevent sagging, but only if worn at all times. Halle says that this is one of the important life lessons her mother imparted to her, to wear a bra if she doesn’t want her breasts to drop down to her knees by the time she’s 30.

She also explains that being married to a French artist and, we assume, relocating half-time to the stylish capital have changed the way she dresses, even if it’s to go out to run some errands. No French woman would be caught in sweats in the streets, Halle says – as opposed to the way American women dress.

Moreover, French women are always ready for an unlikely and ill-fated trip to the emergency room, so they always have the best (and matching) undergarments on.

How Berry’s new business idea came to be

One day, as she was walking down the street, Halle came across Scandale Paris, an 82-year-old lingerie brand that produces very feminine and beautiful undergarments. She personally loves the brand but she understands why not all women would be willing to spend this much on bras and panties, so she bought half of it and is now getting ready to launch her own collection.

For the time being, it will include only 10 items and will be available at Target with price tags ranging from $7 to $18, which is, you will agree, more than affordable.

Halle Berry says that she’s not trying to use her celebrity to peddle a product she knows nothing about. First of all, she’s not the model, so she’s hoping that the line will get attention because it deserves it for the quality of the items, and not because her name is attached to it.

Secondly, she promises that she’s involved in every phase of the process, so she isn’t just another celebrity endorser: she’s actually putting out there stuff that she would wear herself.

Her underwear is already available in stores across the US as we speak, so we’ll see if she managed to be convincing by saying these things.
