The development team at 343 Industries and publisher Microsoft are announcing that the Hunt the Signal promotion for Halo 5: Guardians is at the moment live, allowing interested fans to take part in an ARG based on the coming shooter.

The community has also moved fast in order to uncover a number of details about the promotion, which hints at some possible story elements of the single-player campaign.

Hunt the Signal for Halo 5: Guardians allows players to create teams and then use mobile phones in order to uncover clues and information.

The victors will be invited to become the four Spartans that will be part of the narrative for the coming Master Chief adventure.

The first few transmissions talk about Agent Locke and his quest to find at least a significant weakness in the Mjolnir Combat Armor, which has been one of the core elements of the series.

It seems that his interest is related to something called a Stolen Gauntlet, a situation where a powerful asset of the UNSC, like Master Chief, goes rogue or falls under the influence of an enemy.

The fan community for Halo 5: Guardians is continuing to uncover more information, and Microsoft has said that the conclusion of Hunt the Signal will be drawn at E3 2015 in June.

The company is also promoting the title via the Hunt the Truth blog and associated audio diaries.

Halo 5: Guardians is one of the biggest launches of 2015

Master Chief has always been one of the characters that delivered sales for its line of home consoles.

Microsoft believes that Halo 5: Guardians is a great way of boosting the numbers of the Xbox One, which has not managed to gain any ground in the past few months in its race against the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

343 Industries has released two live-action trailers for the shooter, both suggesting that the story will be focused on a confrontation between Master Chief and Agent Locke, introduced in the Nightfall TV series.

The cover for the game also shows some mysterious Spartans that will play a major role.

The developers are also aiming to introduce a wide range of innovation for the multiplayer of Halo 5: Guardians, including new abilities for characters to use in combat.
