Microsoft has just unleashed a brand new teaser campaign for Halo 5: Guardians, its upcoming first-person shooter for the Xbox One platform, in the form of a website called "Hunt the Truth," and a trailer that sees a tank fire a bullet that's engraved with the word "Traitor."

The Halo series has been around for over 10 years and the franchise already made its debut on Microsoft's new Xbox One console last fall, when the Halo: The Master Chief Collection package launched, with remastered versions of Halo 1, 2, 3, and 4 for the new device.

Since then, Microsoft and developer 343 Industries have started sharing quite a few details about Halo 5: Guardians, the next full-fledged iteration in the series, which should drop in fall of this year exclusively for the Xbox One.

A teaser marketing campaign is now underway

After confirming a few details about the main protagonist, Master Chief, and the all-new character that's coming to the series with Guardians - a mysterious warrior called Locke - Microsoft and 343 have now rolled out a teaser marketing campaign for Halo 5.

First of all, there's a new website called "Hunt the Truth" which hosts a special teaser trailer showing a tank-like vehicle fire a huge round that has a single word engraved on it, "Traitor," which heads right to a glass Master Chief head that shatters into a million pieces.

It's unclear exactly to whom the Traitor refers to, but the Hunt the Truth movement might be the main motivation for Locke to investigate Master Chief in the upcoming game.

A countdown is also present

The website also hosts a special countdown that should end in early morning on Monday, March 23, so it's quite possible that an announcement from Microsoft will be shared at that time, probably alongside a new trailer or some fresh information about Halo 5: Guardians.

Until then, check out the teaser video below.
