Windows Phone 8.1 is a troubled update in the fact that there are still lots of smartphones that have yet to receive it. For the most part, it is carriers’ fault because they are taking quite a long time to test and approve.

While we don’t have any info indicating that this could apply to Canadian carrier Rogers, the fact still remains that HTC 8X owners had to wait several months for the Windows Phone 8.1 update.

The update was first mentioned as being available for HTC 8X smartphone back in October 2014, but for whatever reasons Rogers kept until February 2015.

Many Rogers’ customers who purchased the HTC 8X have decided to go Preview for Developers’ way, meaning that they have installed a preview build of Windows Phone 8.1 rather than waiting for the stable version available for the general public.

Well, when everyone lost their hope that Rogers could ever launch the long-awaited update, the Canadian carrier did the unthinkable and released Windows Phone 8.1 for HTC 8X.

The update does not include any Lumia-specific improvements

The availability has been mentioned on the carrier’s OS Upgrade scheduler and has been confirmed on the forums as well where several customers reported they have received the new 8.10.14203.306 software update, which is also known as Windows Phone 8.1

The update is delivered OTA (over the air) in stages, so it might take a while until it reaches all HTC 8X owners, but at least you now have the certainty that it will be available in just a few days.

With today’s news, we can remove one more name from the list of carriers who have finally released the Windows Phone 8.1 update for HTC 8X, but there are still many that have yet to make the move.

If you’re a Rogers customers and own an HTC 8X, let us know in the comments if you captured the update and how do you like it.
