HP and Microsoft have partnered up to roll out some pretty cheap tablets and last week we saw the announcement of the $100 / €80 Windows 8.1 slate.

But if you’re not the Windows kind of person and you prefer doing your business on an Android product, HP has your back as well.

You might remember the HP 10 Plus tablet as we talked about it a few months ago, but the device has just gone official. The product is up for grabs form the HP website or from Amazon for a price of $280 / €223.

It might not be so cheap as the HP Stream bunch, but it comes with a display larger than that of the Stream duo.

HP 10 Plus is an Android tab with a spacious display

Actually, the HP 10 Plus is a 10-incher taking advantage of a 1920 x 1200 pixel display. It comes equipped with an Allwinner A31 ARM Cortex-A7 quad-core processor fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (which is expandable via microSD card).

Other specs include two cameras (5MP on the back and 2MP up in front), GPS, 802.11 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

The 10.1-inch tablet is kept alive by a pretty huge 7700mAh battery, so one would expect a pretty hefty life-cycle. However, HP claims you won’t be able to get more than a lousy 6 hours.

As for measurements, the HP 10 Plus weighs just 1.5 lbs / 680 g and is 10.4 x 6.9 x 0.4 inches / 264 x 175 x 10.16 mm in dimension.

The tablet’s speakers are placed up in front so the sound comes towards the user as opposed to going in the other direction. Combined with the high-resolution onboard, the HP 10 Plus might prove to be quite popular with multimedia lovers.

Things to consider before purchasing the HP 10 Plus tablet

However, there are a few aspects to consider before you go off and purchase the tablet. First of all, the CPU inside isn't really the best you could hope to find in a tablet, so don’t expect insane levels of performance.

Luckily HP has opted to throw in Android 4.4.2 KitKat as default operating system onboard of the device (altough the Amazon listing says Android 4.2) The company has been known to be quite sluggish in providing its updates, so this should be considered a major benefit.

Last but not least, the $280 / €223 price-tag is relatively sensible, if you take out the equation that the processor inside is no speed-demon.
