The zombie survival game is coming to Steam tomorrow

SOE Chief Executive Officer John Smedley revealed that H1Z1 would make its debut with 150 to 200 servers, some of which would be dedicated to PvE players.

Sony Online Entertainment is getting ready to launch H1Z1, the zombie sandbox adventure, on Steam Early Access tomorrow, and it looks like the company means business.

Last weekend, the company asked fans on Reddit to come up with suggestions for around 50 zombie-themed server names, but it seems that the company managed to beat that number by a rather large margin.

Smedley has repeatedly warned people not to buy the Early Access game if they expect a full experience, as the alpha is meant to assist the development team with feedback, rather than delight players.

Given the number of servers that Sony Online Entertainment prepared though, it looks like not even they believe what they're saying anymore.

SOE is preparing for everything

Arma 3 developer Bohemia Interactive faced an interesting fate when launching DayZ, a similar game that deals with survival, zombies and online psychopathy, and they too warned people not to buy their game yet. The result was that they sold around 3 million copies within a year.

SOE is probably expecting H1Z1 to garner a similar level of attention from the gaming community. The developers even prepared special "disgusting PvE carebear" servers for people who don't enjoy killing or being killed on sight by others, so it seems that the sandbox experience might prove to be a little more friendly for those not interested in raking up a kill count.

The hardcore crowd will be supported as well, with the developer intending to provide a first-person only experience, complete with headshots required to take out zombies. Furthermore, to raise the stakes, players will lose recipes upon death.

H1Z1 is launching on Steam Early Access tomorrow, January 15.
