The community was getting the pitchforks and torches ready, after the developer revealed that airdrops were here to stay

Players will be able to get a “no questions asked” full refund for massively multiplayer online zombie survival game H1Z1.

The game was recently released on Steam Early Access, and to the discontent of the masses, the game includes the option for gamers to pay in order to get in-game supply drops.

Granted, those supply drops are up for grabs for anyone who happens to be near the drop point, and they are highly visible, basically acting like a beacon for every nearby player, and also attract a lot of attention from the undead shamblers, but it’s still that goes against the company’s past promises.

This led a lot of people to become vocal on the game forums and on Reddit, discussing the possible removal of the system, but Sony Online Entertainment held their ground regarding the matter.

A few malcontent players decided to ask Steam for a refund based on false advertising of the game, but as there is no official channel through which such a problem could be solved, SOE decided to take matters into their own hands.

The community uproar prompted SOE to action

Early Access players who find themselves not liking Sony Online Entertainment’s decision regarding purchasable equipment can simply contact the email address posted by studio boss John Smedley on Reddit.

The offer will only be available until tomorrow, and only for purchases made since January 16, and Smedley has warned users that, since it’s not something that goes through Steam, it might take a couple of days.

Sony Online Entertainment’s attempt to please the roaring masses is certainly well met, giving players who felt betrayed a safe exit option. It doesn’t look like the company is going to change the random supply drop feature anytime soon, so if you’re among the anti-microtransaction crowd, you would do well to take up the offer.
