Let Paul have some fun, the Internet fights back

One of the most awkward moments at last night’s Grammy Awards, the 2015 edition, taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and airing live on CBS, came when a camera crew or a producer shamed Sir Paul McCartney into sitting down during a performance.

It happened as ELO was performing “Evil Woman” on stage, and the camera panned over the famous members in the audience. And right there, standing and clapping and dancing like a dad was the Beatles legend, singing along to the song and clearly having the time of his life.

Then, as the Vine below shows, he noticed the camera, made a gesture with his hands that seemed to suggest he was apologizing and he sat down. The Vine in question and a GIF made from it are now viral, with many people online, on Twitter particularly, having the time of their life theorizing what exactly happened to make Paul stop dancing.

One possibility is that he noticed he was being filmed and suddenly became shy, so he sat down. The other, more likely theory is that the camera guy shamed the singer into sitting down, so he could get a shot of the seated audience.

People are convinced it’s the latter, in which case, this was the worst idea possible. If most reaction and / or audience shots had been with Paul, the gala would have seemed less of a drag. I mean, look at him!

Also at the Grammys, Paul performed with Rihanna and Kanye West “FourFiveSeconds,” Rihanna’s most recent single, and buzz online claims someone cut off his microphone because you couldn’t hear him singing. Why won’t they let Paul be great?!
