Ingress, the most successful game developed by Niantic Labs to date, is rumored to be made into a TV show.

The Information reported that Google might be planning on turning the video game into a TV-show. No official statements have been released to this point, but people are growing excited at the news.

If the rumor proves to be true, then this would be a first time for Google, as the giant company has never been involved in the making of television shows.

Since the game has become so popular in such a short notice, there is no reason for the TV-show based on it not to have the same impact.

Why the sudden decision to make a TV-show?

Google is said to have started the collaboration with the Sean Daniel Company, the producer who has more than 30 years of experience in the area and who worked on Wolfman, the Mummy franchise or Tombstone.

However, we should not believe that Google is trying to make it big in the film industry, and become a competitor for Amazon, for instance, but to provide players with another perspective of the game, and maybe change the way gamers play.

The Information suggested "viewing the TV show as a deeper extension into the game's hybrid reality-fictional world and a way to provide a more intimate connection with its players."

It was also revealed that there has been no sign of Google having made any arrangements with TV networks, which means that it is probably still looking for an appropriate showrunner.

It would seem that Google has big plans for the game, as The Verge reported that Niantic was even planning on organizing a convention where Ingress players can gather. This would be an official one, as many more have taken place around the world, with enthusiasts getting together to share their interest in the game.

The game has become so popular that it even has its own official YouTube channel to keep the players updated and the increasing number of views shows that the game is still going strong.
