Gillian Anderson made TV history with her portrayal of agent Scully on the hit series “The X Files,” but now she's gunning for the hottest female-led comedy in Hollywood, “Ghostbusters 3.” The studio behind the project has decided to revamp the franchise, but also give it a twist and make the Ghostbusters women.

So far, among the names that have been rumored to be on top of the casting list, we've had Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, but Gillian Anderson is so determined to make the cut that she's apparently even joked that she would do the movie for free.

She made the confession during a Reddit AMA session, when she confessed that she didn't know that the movie was getting made and that it was going to have a female cast. “OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online. Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I'm free!!!!! I'm free I'm free and I'm funny, goddamnit!” she exploded.

The actress does have some experience working with weird creatures since there were a lot of aliens on “The X Files,” but she isn't known for her comedic performances, so she's still highly unlikely to be cast for a role. But, who knows, stranger things have happened in Hollywood over the years.
