A new batch of reports have appeared online confirming that, instead of the rumored Gears of War Marcus Fenix Collection, Microsoft, Black Tusk, and Splash Damage are going to debut a remastered version of the original Gears of War 1 third-person shooter for the Xbox One.

Microsoft made quite a few waves in the gaming industry when it bought the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games, and immediately confirmed that its recently formed Black Tusk studio will focus on making a new game in the series for the Xbox One.

After the success of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection project, which remastered for the Xbox One the Halo 1, 2, 3, and 4 installments, fans quickly jumped to the possibility of seeing a Gears of War Marcus Fenix Collection, which remasters Gears of War 1 ,2, and 3.

Gears of War 1 is coming to Xbox One

Time and time again, Black Tusk has dismantled this rumor, but it seems that at least Gears of War 1 is going to make its way onto the Xbox One, according to a new set of reports.

More specifically, according to Polygon and Kotaku, the remastered Gears of War game is already in the testing phase with select Xbox One owners. The build includes multiplayer modes like Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, and an assortment of variations.

Apparently, the main developer of this remake is Splash Damage, the UK-based studio that previously worked on Brink or Dirty Bomb. Black Tusk and Microsoft are supervising the remaster process and it should bring forth a multiplayer mode with 60fps framerate, not to mention improved lighting and texture quality.

Unfortunately, Microsoft isn't commenting about the possibility of a Gears of War remaster, so it's possible that the corporation is holding out on that announcement until June, for the large E3 2015 event, where it will confirm more things about this game and the long-awaited next Gears of War.
