The Coalition, the developer formerly known as Black Tusk Studios, confirms at E3 2015 that Gears of War 1 is getting remastered for the Xbox One, in the form of Gears of War Ultimate, which gets a multiplayer beta today, June 15, on the Xbox One. What's more, the new Gears 4 game for the Xbox One has received a short gameplay demonstration.

The Gears of War saga is arguably up there with Halo in terms of shooters that are relevant to the Xbox platform. Microsoft acquired the series from Epic Games some time ago, and since then, its The Coalition studio has been working on a Xbox One installment.

Gears of War Ultimate is coming to Xbox One in August

At E3 2015, the studio confirmed what was rumored for some time now: Gears of War 1 is getting remastered for the Xbox One. The reworked title is called Gears of War Ultimate and is going to debut for the new console with all sorts of improvements, such as 60fps framerate, 1080p resolution, and much more.

What's more important is that a multiplayer beta for Gears of War Ultimate is going to be available for all Xbox One users starting today, June 15, for one week. Details are expected later in the day from Microsoft and The Coalition.

The new Gears 4 gets a gameplay demonstration

Right after the announcement of the remastered game, the all-new Gears 4  game got an impressive gameplay demonstration. It seems that the "of War" portion is no longer relevant, as the playthrough showcased a pair of Gears soldiers walk through a dark mountain environment, and then proceed to explore a spooky mansion.

The whole demonstration had a more survival horror vibe, although the classic cover-based third-person shooter mechanics are still present and look to respect the roots of the franchise.

Check out the Gears 4 video below and expect to hear more of it as we get closer to its holiday 2016 release period.
