The new video card makes an appearance in India

Not so long ago NVIDIA rolled out its latest GeForce GTX 980 and 970 video cards, but these are high-end models which will sell in limited quantities.

So naturally, we assumed NVIDIA would enter the mid-range GeForce GTX 960 model in time for the holiday season. However, as we told you not so long ago, the rumor mill claims the GPU won’t see the light of day too soon.

If current word on the street turns out to be accurate, NVIDIA has plans to roll out the GTX 960 in the first quarter of 2015. This means that if we're lucky, we could see the upcoming video card at CES 2015 (Consumer Electronics Show) taking place this January in Las Vegas.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 appears online

Anyway, as we wait on an official statement from NVIDIA, we turn our eyes towards leaks to find traces of the upcoming GPU.

As reported by Tech Report, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 card has been spotted on India’s export/import website, Zauba. The GPU is part of an import shipment record which also details some key specifications about the upcoming product.

According to the information disclosed by the filling, the GTX 960 will have 4GB of RAM and 256-bit memory interface. The 993/6008 reference you can spot yourselves probably refers to memory clocks, but it’s unclear whether this is the case or not.

To compare, the GTX 970 has 1050MHz base and 1178MHz boost clocks, while the GTX 980 runs at 1126 / 1216MHz. Both cards come with 4GB of DDR5 memory with 256-bit interface. However, given that they are high-end, they have a more advanced 7 GT/s memory transfer rate.

Some specs of the GeForce GTX 960

The general consensus is that the upcoming GTX 960 card will take advantage of the same Maxwell-based GM204 GPU like the higher-end models we talked about above.

The Zauba shipping manifest doesn’t mention anything about shader units, but naturally we expect them to be less than the 1664 found inside the GTX 970.

Furthermore, we can see the GTX 960 will bundle a DisplayPort, HDMI and dual DVI outputs. Interestingly, we’re also given a price in Indian rupees, which translates into roughly $256 / €205.

We should also note that the Zauba filling reveals the units were sent out on September 29, which indicates the cards have been out and about for more than a month.

However, these are testing units so, as previous rumors have claimed, we might still have to wait a few months before the mid-range GTX 960 finally becomes official.
