Plenty of great promotional campaigns were highlighted

Game Connection Europe, one of the largest business-oriented video game events in the world, confirms the winners of its yearly Marketing Awards competition, in which all sorts of different promotional efforts for various games are graded by a panel of experts in terms of ideas and execution.

Game Connection Europe takes place this week at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, France, and sees hundreds of video game developers, publishers, and experts convene to discuss business as well as to hold panels and presentations about their work, the future of the industry, and many other things.

Besides talking about the current state of the industry, the large event is also host to quite a few different awards ceremonies, with one of the biggest dealing with the marketing and promotion of actual video games in the last year.

The 2014 Marketing Awards saw great nominees

For the 2014 edition of the Game Connection Marketing Awards, the jury, composed of experts from both the gaming industry and the advertising one, picked from plenty of interesting nominees in quite a few categories.

"Up to three nominees in each of the nine categories were up for a Marketing Award. In addition, all campaigns were eligible for the bonus category Best Marketing Team 2014, which honors the marketing team who has distinguished itself by the superior quality of their campaign and who inspires innovation in the industry," the officials revealed in a statement.

Watch Dogs and WildStar took home big prizes

The most coveted awards were the Best Marketing Team, which was given to BETC for the Amazing Street Hack Stunt done to promote Ubisoft's Watch Dogs game. The Best Overall Campaign was given to NCSoft and Carbine Studios in honor of the WildStar launch campaign.

There were plenty of other highly disputed categories, such as the best social media campaign, which was won by Coffee Stain Studios with Goat Simulator, as well as the best live action trailer, which was snagged by Paradox Interactive thanks to the Magicka 2 announcement trailer.

The best computer generated trailer category was won by the Sword of Destiny video for The Witcher 3, while the best gameplay one saw the House of the Rising Sun video for Wolfenstein: The New Order win top place.

Other prizes included the best digital campaign for The Crew's Golden Plates promotional efforts, while the best experiential campaign award was given to Wargaming for its Gamescom 2014 showing. Last but not least, the best mobile campaign was the Republique one for Camouflaj.
