The CEO contradicted an official announcement from Rockstar

When video game publisher Take Two revealed its most recent financial results, the company unveiled the fact that developer studio Rockstar has even more independence than many would have thought.

It seems that the chief executive officer of the company, Strauss Zelnick, is unaware of the status of the single-player downloadable content that was promised for Grand Theft Auto V soon after the game was first launched.

Gamespot quotes a statement from Take Two which states, "Strauss misspoke during today's call, as over a year ago Rockstar Games had said that they were exploring story mode content for Grand Theft Auto V; however, no further information has been released since. As always, we leave it to Rockstar Games to share information about their games when they're ready."

The company is reacting to the fact that the CEO initially told an analyst that no such story-focused DLC was ever revealed and that the publisher would not talk about it.

The announcement was made in April 2014, but since then, Rockstar has offered no other details and there's a possibility that a shift has been made from single-player to the Online mode.

The studio has always been able to make its own decisions inside Take Two because of the success associated with the GTA series over the years.

Online will get new content, although clear details have not been offered

Rockstar has managed to keep GTA V interesting to gamers by launching it on new home consoles and finally on the PC, and the company wants to continue to update the title on all platforms.

The focus will be on the Online mode, which has managed to become more interesting than the company probably expected.

Heists were the most recent big addition, and Rockstar has suggested that it is focused on giving the community the tools to create similar levels of content rather than working on it themselves.

GTA V has managed to ship more than 52 million copies and the money derived from microtransactions has also become a very important revenue stream for Take Two.

Rumors have been circulating about single-player DLC that is designed to introduce a new area of the simulated world, while also delivering a narrative focused on an entirely new character.
