The new update has eliminated many effects

Rockstar Games rolled out patch 1.08 for Grand Theft Auto 5 on the PS4 and Xbox One platforms earlier this month to bring the long-awaited online heists, but a new video shows that the update also introduced a noticeable downgrade in terms of visuals and quality on the two platforms.

Grand Theft Auto 5 launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 back in September of 2013, delighting millions of fans from around the world. The title reached the PS4 and Xbox One in November of last year, introducing way more features, such as the first-person view, not to mention a big upgrade in terms of visuals, graphics effects, and much more.

Update 1.08 brought a downgrade, apparently

However, it seems that the latest patch for the game on PS4 and Xbox One, in the form of update 1.08, has destroyed quite a bit of the advantage those versions of GTA 5 had over the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

More specifically, a new fan-made video comparison shows a noticeable drop in quality in terms of overall visuals, not to mention a lack of effects like anisotropic filtering, Parallax Occlusion, or even general vehicle and object pop-in.

As you can see in the footage below, ground textures no longer stand out all that much from one another, due to the lack of parallax occlusion, leading to a noticeable decrease in visual quality. There's also a lot of pop-in when strolling through the city of Los Santos, as vehicles, buildings, and other things pop into view much closer to the camera in GTA 5 version 1.08, as opposed to 1.00.

Anisotropic filtering also seems turned way down by the new update, alongside the damage shown on vehicles after crashes.

Bear in mind that the video shows only the single-player mode, so it's unclear what visual downgrade has been recorded in the multiplayer mode.

As of yet, Rockstar hasn't commented on this downgrade accusation.

Update: Rockstar confirms that the downgrade is a glitch and that a future update will fix it.
